The main target of quality in healthcare services is the maximization of patient benefit and simultaneously the minimization or even neutralization of all potential dangers during health care delivery process. The implementation of a quality management system according to ISO 9001:2000 in an Allergy Unit contributes in assuring a desired approach to patient needs while executing in a proper way and a proper place all the tests and establishing links with the community taking into consideration available and required resources, the degree of repeatability of the adequate actions and the traceability of variations. The system includes reengineering of the organizational structure in order to improve processes flow, clear definition and total commitment in the job description, evidenced documents and archives control and personnel continuous education. It also includes evidence based health care practice using clinical guidelines for every clinical activity taking place in the Unit, the allergic patient record and instructions to patients. This quality management framework results in diachronic monitoring of key performance and quality indicators in order to achieve a continuous rebuilt of the system based on allergic patient’s expectations and needs which by definition are long-lasting and prone to changes.
