Results: Throughout Greece 25,000 women have been examined, among which 12,000 cases have been analyzed. Statistical analysis based on these cases indicates that the women in Greece aged over 55 years who already suffer from osteoporosis number roughly 855,000, while 1,000,000 women under 55 years have low bone density. Only 18% of Greek women have a sufficient calcium intake, and only 3% regularly participate in sports (3 times a week). In addition, 45% of women aged over 55 years have never undergone bone density measurement. Its aims include the dissemination of information and prevention via organized action. It provides portable units, organizes meetings for raising awareness of the problem and the importance of the right diet and exercise and arranges psychological support.
