Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) poses a growing public health and economic challenge worldwide, necessitating innovative approaches to care delivery. The Diabetes Specialist Nurse (DSN) has emerged as a pivotal figure in optimizing DM management through advanced clinical expertise, patient education, and leadership within multidisciplinary teams. DSNs contribute to improved clinical outcomes and cost-effectiveness by coordinating care, supporting self-management, and leading quality improvement initiatives. To maximize the impact of DSNs, investment in specialized education, ongoing professional development, and supportive policy frameworks is essential. Strengthening these areas will empower DSNs to deliver high quality, patient-centered diabetes care and address the evolving demands of DM management in the 21st century.
